Justice for the World
She was deemed to have been given the privilege of giving hope to a world of distress according to one of the judges on Britain's Got Talent before coming in second as the runner up to a dance group called Diversity. Singing talent extraordinaire Susan Boyle from Scotland of 48 years of age surprised both the audience as well as the judges of the British talent show with her singing capabilities, contrary to expectations that were seemingly based on her appearance and age.
Her audition was called the biggest wake up call ever by one of the judges and the pressure was right on. The world was eagerly anticipating her performance in the finals after another astonishing performance in the semi-finals. Britain voted her the runner up and that may as well be the best scenario for Susan, as for the first time since her audition the pressure was finally off. But why did she came in second? The world outside of Britain exalted with disapproval on the internet as she is clearly deemed the better by people outside of Britain. Susan in the meanwhile had to admit to having been under a fair amount of stress and took time to rest while the world was still in wonder over Susan once again, but now over her defeat in the finals.
Now, is Britain that far off or are there more simple reasons that may have attributed to the surprising outcome?
The Diversity Effect
The final consisted mainly of extraordinary singers of whom Susan had made the biggest impact, but she was in fact not the only one to have been giving worldwide spread attention. Some young singers such as Hollie Steel were also being noticed, whereas people outside of Britain couldn't have cared less about the show during previous editions, except for the time Paul Potts made his appearance, who, with his audition, made a impact similar to that of Susan Boyle and ended up winning the edition of 2007. Though Susan may have been deemed the favorite this time, she did in fact have some competition from some talented youngsters in particular. Voters in Britain in favor of singing had more acts to choose from and Susan had undoubtedly won had it been a contest for singers exclusively.
Diversity being a dance act only had one other dance act to outnumber, although a young solo dancer had made it to the final as well. Saxophonist Julian Smith came in third based on a wonderful instrumental performance, thereby adding to the diversity of this year's top three of Britain's Got Talent.
Other possible contributing factors include the fact that Britain had seen Susan perform this song before during her audition when the impact may have been more astonishing and notably that voters may have expected her to win easily and therefore not be as motivated to vote for her sake.
All speculations aside, as Susan said it: "The best people won. They are very entertaining lads - lads, I wish you all the best." She set out to become a professional singer and that is what she will achieve if she will play her cards right and will remember and keep in mind that now seemingly simple wish.
The world is a far more interesting place having diversities. We really should in the right light cherish our differences.
